The Philippine National Public Key Infrastructure (PNPKI) is a system developed by the Philippines' Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to enable secure and reliable online transactions¹.

Here are some key details about the PNPKI:

- What it is: The PNPKI is a collection of technology, software, policies, personnel, and procedures for creating, managing, distributing, using, storing, and revoking digital certificates.

- How it works: The PKI authenticates the data source and ensures that data has not been altered in transit by using certificates issued and digitally signed by a Certificate Authority (CA). Data such as emails and online transactions can also be encrypted using PKI.

- Who can use it: The services are available to government agencies and employees, as well as private individuals and government computers, servers, and workstations.

- Benefits: The benefits of PKI include significantly improving the verifiability of an individual’s or entity’s identification. A Digital Certificate issued by the PKI will have at least a 2048-bit system-generated key.

- Applications: PKI is required when an agency communicates via email or conducts business online. Email is a simple application to configure and connect with PKI. Users merely need to register and acquire their digital credentials to use these applications.
